New Worker Traineeships - for new staff members employed by your company for LESS than 3 months full-time or 12 months part-time:

Existing Worker Traineeships * - for staff members employed by your company for more than 3 months full time or 12 months part-time.

What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a structured training program that is available either on a part time (over 20 hours per week) or full time basis and generally in non trade related areas (Business, Retail, Information Technology etc). A traineeship is generally for a duration of twelve months or more. What makes a traineeship particularly appealing is that you are actually working in the industry gaining real world experience and getting paid while you study.

A traineeship is a valuable first step towards a rewarding career. By taking on trainees, employers have the opportunity to develop well trained, versatile and multi - skilled employees.

Traineeships provide skills development through training that is employment based.

Financial incentives may be available to eligible employers who take on trainees. Once the trainee has successful completed the traineeship they gain a nationally recognised qualification that can lead to further studies and higher employment in the industry. What are the employer's obligations?

For a traineeship to be beneficial to the company, there has to be a strong commitment to training. You will be required to provide appropriate support and supervision to the trainee in the form of: Coaching, mentoring and encouragement to learn the skills of the job;
Providing a safe working environment and conditions conducive to skills development.
If necessary, time off work to attend and complete the relevant off-the-job training.
